How do you manage cloud-native microservices at scale?

Large-scale management of cloud-native microservices relies on container orchestration, service meshes, and automated infrastructure. At its core is the achievement of high availability, elastic scaling, automated operation and maintenance, and fault isolation, supporting the rapid iteration and reliable operation of modern applications, typically used in e-commerce, finance, and large-scale online services.

Its core components include: orchestration platforms (such as Kubernetes) for managing service lifecycles and resource scheduling; service meshes (such as Istio) for handling inter-service communication, traffic governance, and security; unified configuration centers (such as ConfigMap/Secrets) for configuration management; automated CI/CD pipelines for continuous deployment; and observability stacks (logs, metrics, tracing) for providing monitoring and diagnostic capabilities. Together, these ensure effective practices in service discovery, elastic scaling, canary releases, and circuit breaking and rate limiting.

Key implementation steps are: 1) Adopting Kubernetes for container orchestration and defining service deployment descriptions; 2) Integrating service meshes to manage network traffic and enhance security; 3) Establishing GitOps-driven CI/CD to implement automated testing and deployment; 4) Implementing centralized configuration and secret management; 5) Building end-to-end observability systems; 6) Defining elastic policies (such as HPA) and health checks. This significantly improves deployment efficiency, system resilience, and resource utilization, while reducing operational complexity.
